Shaggy Horses in the Cold Season

In the winter, horses grow a winter coat - this can make some breeds look very shaggy sometimes, such as the clyedesdale.
Some people try to prevent this natural growth of hair for the better looks of their horse by putting a timed light in the horses stall that turns off when the sun would set during the summer; therefor tricking the horse's body out of a winter coat. Some succeed. Others don't though, because if the something goes wrong with the light - such as its batteries run out - the horse will grow a coarse hair called elephant hair, which is most inelegant. This hair will shed eventually though.
